Growing up around the woods & waters of rural Maine, David’s life-long love of art & the outdoors has merged with an expert’s knowledge of animal anatomy & life-history. His fascination with preserving Nature’s beauty in an artistic format was fostered during his early years as a licensed taxidermist. Earning a degree in Wildlife Management from the University of Maine, he later surrendered to his heart & chose art as his true vocation. Beginning as a self-taught wood carver, he has long-since worked with many well-known sculptors. Lost-wax bronze is now his primary medium, although custom woodcarving and sculpture can still be commissioned.

Creating limited editions & commissioned works, David has participated in prestigious juried shows such as the Salmagundi Club in NYC & the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, SC. His work was used to dedicate the Charles Hathaway Nicholson Park in Boston & has been on exhibit at the Wendell Gilley Museum in Southwest Harbor. He has spoken at the Portland Museum of Art & has won numerous 1st Place & Best of Show awards in competitions including the Maine Outdoor Art Show.

Noted for evoking a sense that the spirit of the subject is residing within the medium, his work has been collected by individuals & businesses far & wide. It’s been used at a variety of functions to help raise funds for causes from charitable institutions to conservation organizations & projects.

Being in the company of David’s sculpture can stir emotions, special memories or shared values…He communicates with the viewer using exquisite form, composition & anatomy as a language that captures the bond between animal & man.

Any sculpture, which has not already been found in David’s offerings, can be privately commissioned.  Your imagination, (& David’s), are the only limits, & the piece can range from a small casting or pet-portrait to a tabletop, life-sized or monumental outdoor installation. He’ll be happy to collaborate with you to create just what you’d like in either wood or bronze.

“Our own well-being is closely related to that of all life & the environment as a whole. I hope that living with my sculpture serves as a daily reminder of our ties to the natural world.”
