Gail E Sauter

Artist Statement:
I'm intrigued by visual memories - quickly glimpsed scenes that remind us of someone we’ve known or something we’ve done. Emerging unbidden, they bring the past to life. I find an elegance in these seemingly ordinary moments, and through my paintings I hope to convey their power to transcend time and enrich our lives.
Living and working in different cultures has allowed me to experience the similarity of people around the world. This has led to the thrust of my work today – portraits of ‘universal’ moments of everyday life. I think it’s important that we connect with one another and share our commonalities while we celebrate our differences. Through such moments we discover something about ourselves, and that, to me, is what art is all about.
